I am running Snow Leopard. I used to have a MobileMe account - "mac.com". When Apple cancelled MobileMe, my mac went 'cafluee'. Ya! That bad. Anyway, I deleted my mac.com account from Mail. However, today I clicked on iChat, and iChat asked for my password, which is now lost in the mists of time. So I clicked on "Forgot Password" and got two options. I took the first and entered the month and day of my birth, and my infallible Mac said "incorrect". So, I took the second option — I requested a new password by e-mail. I assume Apple sent this via my mac.com account. So I added my mac.com account back into Mail, but Mail won't accept my password. So, Mr. Apple, I'm damned if I do, and screwed if I don't in trying to get iChat to work. Now what?

Have you tried looking in Keychain Access? I don't know if Keychain Access will keep your password once you deleted the mac.com email account from Mail, but it does not hurt to check.

Also, I don't know what happened to MobileMe accounts when MobileMe was "turned off" if you did not "actively" covert to iCloud. I believe they were converted to iCloud automatically, but it is possible that if you did nothing that they just went "poof" and were gone. I got this from the Wikipedia page for MobileMe:

Quote

All services were being gradually transitioned and replaced by iCloud and the service ceased as of June 30, 2012, with transfers to iCloud available until July 31, 2012. After that date, all data was deleted, and the email addresses of accounts not transferred to iCloud were marked as unused.

Thus, if you did not actually "move" your MobileMe account to iCloud, then your MobileMe/iCloud address was apparently marked as unused. If so, then that kind of implies that address might have been made available for other people to use.

Thus, you might have to contact Apple to see if you still have access to that address.

If not, you should be able to create a new account for use with iChat. I believe your MobileMe account was basically just using AIM's system...so, you should be able to just create an AIM account and it should work.
