New OLD iPod Help me upgrade

Hi mac users ,

Just got a older 16 GB iPod with ver 3.1.3 software and I got a fm transmitter to go with it so I can use it in my old '06 car and the IPOD tells me i need to upgrade the software .. I checked and the IPOD is up to date APPLE .CA tells ,, so there a fm transmitter out there that will work with a older IPOD ???? HELP ME please
