Whenever a person reading a story on any website and some pop up appears, they have to stop what they are doing and dismiss the ()&%()*^&) popup. Very few people think that these popups are helpful and many, like myself, become very hostile.

With MacWorld now, there is a popup on EVERY PAGE - You cannot read any article without one of these darned things forcing you to stop and your tracks and dismiss them.

Please GET RID OF THEM. We are people, not automatons ripe to be manipulated. Please show some respect for your readers, for heaven's sake.

Here, here. One other problem besides the pop-up. It's always the same article recommended, and it's almost a year old! Seriously, fix the recommendation engine, guys.

And while you're at it, please fix the forum login. I go to the login page and click Login so I can leave a comment. It logs me in and takes me to . . . the home page. Huh?

Came here to complain about the same thing.

I just don't get it. Why are you trying to annoy the hell out of your readers? We're not stupid. We even understand the challenges you face as publishers in this new world. But this? Really?

Here's my suggestion: Your editorial staff are a remarkably smart, erudite and technically savvy bunch, probably some of the best in the business. As noble as your intentions to keep editorial and advertising separate, maybe this is a good place to get this intelligent bunch involved in site design and direction?

I really am this close to deleting Macworld from my bookmarks, or better yet, exploring ways to strip ALL advertising and annoyance from the site. Is that really what you want?

I just came to this forum to complain about this, and I see that it's right at the top of the topic list!

MAKE IT STOP!!!!!

Seriously, I spend quite a bit of time on your site, but this is SEVERELY trying my patience. Whoever thought it was a good idea should be taken to the woodshed.

What is left to say other than ditto. It is absolutely obnoxious!! I would have thought Macworld was above trashy gimmicks like that, but it looks like I was wrong

At least the popup regarding the iOS 6 Maps recommendation seems to have vanished in the past week ...

I agree that it has been annoying to have those super repetitive attention getters, though I've never had to dismiss them. I've just ignored them and went on my merry way.

The biggest frustration is really that probably a hundred or so readers voiced their opinion about the site redesign and alerted MW about some bugs, and to this day no action really has been taken to fix anything but critical system errors.

The rest is still the same visual mess loaded with practical obstructions. That's not even second rate ... We are way beyond that so many months after implementation/roll-out.

I subscribe. I'm signed in. If you (the webmaster, the editorial staff, the publisher, whomever) insist on putting up the worthless, condescending and annoying "article recommendation" pop-up, give me a preference to turn it off!!!!!!!!!

Please stop that annoying pop-up. I enjoy you magazine/site but the pop-up has made it unreadable for me. My site visits are WAY down and when I find something I want to read I add it to my reading list till I get a change to print it. Like I just did with today's network connection article.

It might be an issue of the page designer assuming that everyone has story articles open on a browser window that is wide enough to keep the pop-up recommendation out of the way. When I tested it, the recommendation pop-up was out of the way in the "white space" (that they otherwise waste) to the right of the article...so it does not get in my way. If you have the browser window to basically be wide enough to see the full width fo the article, then the pop-up gets in the way.

I didn't think it was possible, but that stupid popup actually makes me read the Macalope less, let alone the other stuff (not that I miss reading the fifth article on how the iPad can't replace a Mac).

The thing is, the popup is annoying enough in its own right, but on some browsers, like Reeder's built-in browser or when Firefox is PMSing again, it can't be dismissed. The first couple of times this happened, I copied the text to read it offline in peace, but the longer this goes on, the more it annoys me, and the less I'm willing to give any page views to the company behind it.
It's a shame, because I still like this site. I still come here pretty much every day, but knowing that any page other than the home page will annoy me, I often leave without reading anything.

I will add my vote for this one.

I thought the old page layout was just fine. There was a set of articles related on the side of the page that I could choose from. The pop up banners do not display correctly most of the time anyway.

I am really sick and tired of having to dismiss all the annoying "poop-ups" on this site. Please do not try to help me in this way.
