I've paid for the full cost of the iPhone up front, yet T-Mobile still requires a contract, huh. Great deal.

you can still get a non contract plan.

Read the fine print. The unlimited plan is not truly unlimited. There is a 5GB cap in the fine print.

There is no cap. 5gb cap at 4g, then your service could slow down. But that is it.

I agree! Why have a contract if there is no benefit to the customer-Tmobile gets payment each month or a fee if you terminate the contract. There doesn't seem to be THAT big of a difference in monthly charges.

Not subsidising the phones will be a bad move in my opinion-ive been a loyal Tmobile customer for years and I was holding out to see if Tmobile would offer the Iphone but if it is at full cost there's no way I can justify buying it. I almost considered switching to ATT (even paying $10/month) but am waiting till the end of my contract now-cause there's this pesky fee otherwise! If Tmobile intends to make its smartphone customers pay full price and offer a small discount per month they may lose more customers than they had hoped.

Not true. You can opt for true unlimited date with no tethering option, or you can have tethering/hotspot access and be throttled at 5GB. Both are the same price

I am currently a T-Mobile customer and I have an iphone 3GS. It is currently working off of an old iOS because I can not update it via iTunes. I am curious as to if when T-Mobile carries the iphone, will I then be able to update the ios? I have no issues using an older iphone and would like to save a few dollars and keep what I have. My thinking is that when iTunes recognizes T-Mobile as an iPhone provider it won't flag and freeze my phone. Am I correct in thinking this?

I was in chat-rooms with my other potential carriers and t-mobile so far is looking the most promising. The chatroom lady says

"order the free sim, get a $10 pre-paid plan to test it out and work from there"

I replied with "what happens to the $10 if nothing works"

Her reply "throw out the sim card" (notice the dodged question)

All that said, t-mobile is the 1st pre-paid i've looked into, but still looking the most promising for my 4S under Sprint..

Can anyone speak of how well T-mobile data is in North Carolina?

I'm currently with Sprint and I know I'm not the only one jumping on the "so long contract" wagon

iTunes vs carrier should have nothing to do with each other. iTunes is backing up your internal data.. pictures, music, apps, etc. What carrier you have shouldn't depend this.

for the first 5GB you reach in a month it's at 4G speeds then it will throttle down to 3G speeds for it is still truly unlimited just not at 4G but nonetheless unlimited data. The iPhone doesn't have to be bought full price, you can do eip (equipment installment plan) and that will add to the monthly bill. The sooner its paid off the lower your bill will be because the cost of the device is paid in full thus the bill will be much lower by as much as $20.00.

and clearly, it's better than not knowing you went overages and be charged at the end of the month.

I was "grandfathered into AT&T's unlimited data, however I found out quickly after switching from the iPhone 3, to the 4s that its not truly unlimited! I don't remember the amount if data, but 8 days into my billing cycle, only my third month, my Internet was so slow I called AT&T, and was informed that they are limiting customers that use to much data, so if you use your phone to stream music, Netflix, etc, I'm sure it won't be long until you too are "cutoff" by AT&T. Hopefully not for you! Good Luck!! I left and went to Sorint which has true unlimited data, but not as good coverage. Guess I had to way the pros and cons, I'd rather have unlimited data when I do have service, versus no Internet at all after 8 days! I tried to purchase more data from AT&T and they wouldn't even sell me any! Hopefully you don't go thru what u did!! Had to pay to break my contract etc, turned into a very pricey move for me! If you do sign a new contract be sure to ask what there data limit is on the "unlimited plan"!
