I wish there was a simple way of testing the sound output like windows has. You can easily see if the mic is sensing input sounds, why not have a simple output test tone? This would have come in handy for me countless times.

Chris

I have a new iMax 27" and I find the display much darker than my MBP. Since I work with pictures this is a huge problem. Pics with the same adjustments looks quite different between the two machines. I have tried to calibrate the display both with Apple's method and a Spyder3 but no help.

One can see the effect objectively by going to: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php, on both computers. The MBP show shades of gray; the iMac only black regardless of the profile i use.

Any Thoughts; If this is the iMac screen, it won't be very useful for photo processing.

I have a mid 2010 iMac 27". In the "Sound Effects" tab, when I don't plug in headphones, the "Play sound effects through:" pull down is only "Internal Speakers". When I plug in headphones, I can only select "Headphones" Your article implies that if you plug in headphones you will get 2 choices for sound effect, "Internal Speakers" or "Headphones". What do I have to do to get the 2 choices?
