I received 4 DVDs of "Homeland" episodes as a Christmas gift. I want to watch them on my iPad.

Do I have to do a massive transcode session with Handbrake — processors maxed out & fans blasting — for hours — just to move the content to my iPad?

I don't care about keeping the iPad media files- watching this TV show will be a one-time affair. Just let me put them on my iPad.

It seems that there should be a way to copy the VOB MPEG files, stick them in some kind of Quicktime wrapper, and be done with it.

Regrettably, yes.
