I'm running Snow Leopard on a 2011 27" iMac. I have two external drives for files and an external drive for Time Machine. One of the drives died and I purchased a new one on which I copied the files from the dead drive; it has a new name.

In the two times I've used Time Machine since, it backs up my computer and the two external drives—but it's also backing up the drive that no longer exists.

One, how do I stop Time Machine from doing that.

Two, how do I delete the files on the two backups for that "missing" drive; it's chewing up major extra space on my Time Machine Drive.

If that drive is not physically there, then it is likely not actually backing it up...but rather shows it in the backup since there are still old versions of files from it in the Time Machine backup. So, if you get ride of old files backed up from that drive with Time Machine, then that drive will likely go away.

I believe this should help you delete old files backed up from that drive:

Thanks for the resource. Didn't even know those options were available. However, it now appears you can right-click on the folder rather than going into "Gears" menu, although that way also works.
