The critics that are screaming right now are intellectually lazy. They're throwing temper tantrums instead of looking at the big picture. Like two-year-olds, they don't really know what they want. And they're not happy when they get it, anyway. Apple could unveil a new car and they'd say Apple's days are over because it's just bet its future on an industry it knows nothing about. Not unlike, say, Apple's entrance into the mobile phone industry. I bet that if Apple did unveil a time machine, they'd claim it wasn't fast enough.

Tim Cook is taking exactly the right approach, staying the course, despite distracting expectations swirling around him. Apple is a marvel of human achievement. Why waste the beautiful sight of it by casting your gaze on a group of misbehaving children who have never accomplished anything remotely close to it in concept or scale and don't have the faintest understanding of how something this remarkable operates and grows in the first place?

I agree that Apple could build a car and still get zapped by Wall Street zombies. Having said that, I really do wish Apple would build an electric vehicle. Cars are about to become CE devices. Apple would do a great job of it. And in the long term, Apple does need a huge industry to disrupt and grow and there aren't many left. Forget TV! Give me my iPlug!

Samsung probably wants to make a car, but they are waiting for Apple to show them how to do it. They can copy it and claim that there is no other possible way to make a car. Then, if Apple sues them, they'll claim that Apple is stifling innovation.

Actually, Samsung did start to make cars back in 1995. The company was taken over by Renault during the Asian Financial Crisis later on, so it's called Renault Samsung Motors these days.

Samsung actually made cars untill the Asian financial crisis when all korean chaebols were hard hit and needed to consolidate its business, so they sold their car unit to Renault. The brand is still called Samsung, so certainly there is a Samsung car. Googled, and see it yourself.
