I'm curious whether or not you can scan wirelessly to Mac computers with the iX500.

Sent the question Fujitsu support last week, no answer yet, after 5 days, which is always a bit troubling sign.

Do you know if scanning to a Mac over WiFi is possible with iX500?

The author starts the article with a completely nonsensical argument. The scanner on my brother MFP9325 can feed 25 or more pages at a time, it has the flatbed for the occasional book or magazine article, plus it doesn't require additional desktop real estate. It sounds like Landau needs to look at the current MFP's before making such sweeping inaccurate statements. Sadly, this is what "journalism" has been reduced to these days. Forget truth and reality, sensationalism sells!

Most MFP's scan and print wirelessly. One device on the desktop to scan, copy and/or print.

No. You can only scan over USB for now via the iX500. Given the chip inside the ScanSnap, I assume it would be possible to scan to Mac wirelessly and we may see this in the future. For now, I assume that other limitations restrain Fujitsu from offering this. For example, maybe they could not achieve the same high ppm wirelessly.

My understanding is that the high document feed rate you refer to is for "copying" -- that is scanning directly to a printed copy — without going to the Mac. Scanning an image to the computer is a separate action and doesn't go at nearly the 25 ppm speed. Further, the printer doesn't scan both sides of a page in a single pass. It also doesn't feed business cards, credit cards etc. nearly as well as a document scanner, if at all.

My opening comparison was also meant to refer to the less expensive inkjet printers used by the vast majority of Mac users in homes and small offices. The latest models of many of these don't have any document feeder at all.

Overall, although I suppose I could have been a bit more clear in my intent, I believe that what I wrote is correct.

I looked at both the Neat and a similar SnapScan (the S1500M). Hands down. No contest. No brainer. Not even in the same ball park. Is the pope Catholic? Outta their league. Didn't even require a second look. Du-uh!

I bought the SnapScan.

You're mixing model names... All Fujitsu scanners are ScanSnap.

SnapScan is an Agfa trademark. You may want to correct your copy...

Ack! You are of course correct. Despite my best efforts, I seem to keep making this error. And it somehow slipped through the editing process. I've alerted the powers that be and it should hopefully be fixed soon.

The major advantage of a document scanner is speed combined with reliability. Within less than a minute, you can scan 25 pages -- double sided (that's really like 50 pages). There's no way that an iOS camera, with or without a ScanJig, can compare to a document scanner here. If you really need to do a lot of scanning in a short period of time, iOS camera scanning does not make the grade.

Exporting database. I'm concerned with either software the respective compannies will make it difficult if not impossible to convert Fujitsu to Neat, vice-versa or to a 3rd company that becomes a contender in the future. Perhaps Wolrdcard. Also, would like ot know of these two, and possily bring in Worldcard as a comparison, which is the stand alone best for scanning, storing and allowing to export business cards?

After my research aka reading David Sparks book Paperless, I went with the Fujitsu. Along with it Hazel to clean up. I did buy the Neat software separately and found it didn't play we'll out of the neat environment. What I wanted was a system. From Big Blue Button ...... Renamed...... Filed..... Shredded with the least friction. I found it with the 1500M and Hazel!!!! OBTW the out put folder is in Dropbox,nested.

Neat keeps its info in its DB which didn't like. Not sure about export. Fujitsu puts out searchable PDFs for you to do as you wish.
