It seems like every time I boot up my MacBook Pro (10.6.8), Either my system preferences and/or my Safari (5.1.7) preferences have been lost. Seldom do I boot up and find these preferences like I left them when I shut down. I expect that this can happen occasionally, but this is truly almost every time. I am the only user on my computer and always shut it down correctly. Surely, this CONSTANT preference loss is wrong; I am losing so much time resettinng things. I have been a Mac user since 1988; this constant problem is something new to me. Please help me find someway to make my preferences stable. Can I "lock" hidden files or something? I'm going nuts! Thanks.

Sounds like your account may have become corrupted. Creating a new one might solve the problems.
