Will the iTunes transfer you described work on Windows PCs? I want to transfer my iTunes library from a Win Vista laptop to a new Win 8 laptop I'm buying. The library is pretty big, exceeding 50 GB.

Home Sharing works on Windows, but if you have 50 GB, and you don't have a fast network, I'd recommend using a hard disk.

If I run iTunes 11 on a computer that runs Linux, will I be able to authorize that computer and watch HD iTunes movies on it?

So far I have put all of my CD’s and DVD’s in iTunes. All of the DVD and CD’s are in a bag I never open. I just bought two DVD’s, Art Blakey and John Coltrane. I still have a Super Drive so I was going to do the same with those two. I watch DVD’s on the TV through the Apple TV. Protected! The manufacturers of DVD and CD have themselves to blame. I will never buy another DVD. Apple helped kill this business by taking off the Super Drive from future Mac’s. Too bad!

Agreed it's a pain, but you can purchase a relatively inexpensive DVD ripper to convert your DVD's to .mp4 or .m4v (AppleTV & iTunes format). I use Mac DVDRipper Pro. Another fascinating utility that copies ANY movie on your screen is iShowU HD.

2 iTunes questions on Windows.

We have a Windows7 machine for our family with user accounts set up for my wife and I and each of our kids (5 accounts total). I set up the iTunes account on my profile and have all the music stored there. I've set up Home Sharing so the library can be accessed by my Apple TV.

The questions are these:

1) Is there a way to configure iTunes on the individual windows profiles so that each person can load and access the music? I save all my music to C:\iTunes\Music so I could point each account to that library. However, I don't believe that the library is "auto-updating" in that it would detect music added to subfolders if they were ripped in itunes from another user's profile. (In other words, as I continue to rip music, even if my kids had the itunes\music folder mapped in their itunes settings, would it detect the newly ripped music without them having to "add" it).

2) The related question/problem comes if users simply "lock" the account rather than logging off. Windows throws an error if iTunes is running in another user's profile. So if my wife launches iTunes on her profile and then locks the machine and I logon, I can't launch iTunes in my profile.

With these various "profile" issues, I'm tempted to purchase something to act as a "media center" to just let us all stream from the "home share" created. However, the problem of each of us running iTunes would still come up even if the library was shared elsewhere.

Any suggestions?

I recently purchased a MacBook Air going from over 500gig to 120gig and now find i'm lacking room in my new computer. My question is, (can i put my playlist only on my MacBook Air and not all my library?) All my library is presently on an external Hard Drive. I would like only the songs from my playlist to reside on my MacBook Air hard drive.
