If you are unfortunate enough to need Java to do your work, you must work around Apple’s arrogant no-alternative shutdown of Java each time Oracle drops the Java security ball. Windows is one workaround, but here is another.

Put a copy of Mountain Lion onto a separate drive, or partition, or USB thumb drive and use ONLY to do your Java based stuff. That copy is “disposable” so feel free to abuse it.

• Boot to that system
• Put “/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/“ into the “Go to Folder” command.
• Trash the “XProtect.meta.plist” and “XProtect.plist files.

There may be a more elegant or better focused way to hack the system, but as I said, this is your disposable copy of the OS.
