The iDrive Sync sounded interesting until they said they used your Facebook account to log in.

How is this different than DollyDrive? Inface seems DollyDrive may have price and features advantage?

I just signed up for both without providing my Facebook login credentials, so while it may be an option, it certainly isn't a requirement. Always good to check these things before spreading incorrect information...

No need to use Facebook. I signed up with an email address. BTW, they have an interesting feature on iDrive Sync called Out of the Box, which syncs any folder on your HD without having to move it to the iDrive folder.

IDrive and IDrivesync services do sound interesting, with out of box sync, timeline, better pricing. Why can't they combine the two and offer one solution?

Well, I take that last comment back, I see that IDrive offers private key option and IDrivesync does not, and the former is higher security because it is an online backup service.

Never heard of IDrivesync before, but looks very promising. Dropbox is way too expensive and they needed a worthy competitor. what is timeline? like facebook?

Never mind, it is just organizing photos by time. Can it do by location? I would buy the service if they can do that.

I started using IDrive recently. Really liked the interface, easy to use and reliable. Way to go IDrive! Wish they had the same 25GB offer they had at macworld event for IDrivesync.

One correction regarding the IDrive Portable drives - a user can restore their data for free through the software or the website, or they can purchase the 1TB drive for $99.95 and have the data loaded and shipped on that; keeping the drive is not optional, however. Sorry for any confusion!

As usual, I find these product reviews both interesting and informative. I would however have appreciated some information on the level of encryption and security features that these online services offer. If I am archiving my personal data online, the level of security and the associated security features is more important to me than the price/month or price/year.

Both IDrive and IDrivesync services store user data with 256 bit AES encryption by default. In addition, IDrive offers a private key option with a key known only to the user which makes it impossible for anyone else to have access to the data, but this also limits the sharing capabilities when one uses private key encryption.

Both the services are highly secure, and we follow industry standard practices to safeguard user data at various stages from source to the destination, full lifecycle of the user data. The services and procedures are SAS70 certified.

For rest of the comments:
Photos by location: Yes, we are working on this and may have an update soon.
Timeline: Yes, this is basically about organizing and displaying your media data by time.
IDrive free storage: While the base offer is for 5GB free, you can earn 20GB more by referring other users
Integrating IDrive and IDriveync: Great suggestion, however, the core functionality of the two services are different, but we will explore ways to integrate them

Thank you all for your comments.
