There's seems to be a number of differences: the WU-1A is much more limited in functionality and only works with a couple of Nikon cameras. From the reviews it also sounds buggy and very slow. It only recently was adapted for iOS devices. And, with most Nikon accessories and software, the support for updates and the like is very limited. The CameraMator sounds like a much more sophisticated and advanced product to me.

Swing and a miss (sort of). Nikon has been releasing updates to their products quite frequently should the devices need it...I am currently using the WT-5 with my D4 to tether via OnOnes app. However Nikon has decided that wireless is simply too slow for use with the D800 due to the files sizes...

It might come with a clip that allows it to connect to the camera strap...

==> not true.
On CameraMator's home page, they show it in use mounted on a cold-shoe bracket, hanging off to the side of the camera (mounted to the tripod socket). The hot shoe on top of the camera is free to use for a dedicated flash (or mount a microphone, or whatever).
