I finally figured out how to make ringtones. Sadly, the article here doesn't help very much. I found a fairly good video on YouTube. I will add, you have to select a Smart instrument to get the visualizer, and the song will be cut off to around 17 seconds. There seems to be no way to make it longer.

That custom vibration trick is awesome!

Looks like some Apple engineers had fun.

>Snap photos while shooting videos. You’re using your iPhone 5 to film a magical moment, and you wish you could snap a photo at the same time. Don’t stop recording! Just tap the camera shutter button, which remains on-screen as you film. You aren’t using the iPhone’s true photo sensor; you’re getting the slightly less impressive video sensors instead, but the photos should still turn out pretty nicely. Note that this tip doesn’t work on older iPhones.<

I don't understand this tip and I'm using an iPhone 5. When I'm taking a video, the "shutter" button is the on and off button. Clicking it to start the video and clicking it to stop the video. There isn't another button on the screen.

You want to tap the camera button below the shutter button. We'll update the article text accordingly.

"If you’d like to get a preview of your route, tap your destination on the map and choose Directions to Here. Then, instead of using the Current Location option for your starting point, enter your address manually and tap Route. Once you’ve chosen your route and tapped Start, you’ll be able to swipe through the instructions at the top and see exactly which turns Maps wants you to take. (It’s the same way you got directions back in iOS 5.)"

Weird. On my ipad, I can get a swipeable tour of the route even if I use "current location," but on my iphone, I can only do it if I enter a specific address as the starting point.

It depends how you're holding it. To say it's below the shutter button isn't exactly correct.

No matter how you hold it, it will replace the slider for Camera/Video while you're shooting video.

Portrait: it'll be to the right of the shutter button
Landscape volume buttons up: it'll be below the shutter button
Landscape volume buttons down: it'll be above the shutter button

And what's wrong with this site? I have to keep refreshing Safari to get my comments to post!

Regarding the "Reply with Message" hint, on my iPhone 5 running V. 6.1, there is no customize "button" to use in creating a fourth message, as you indicate. All I see are the 3 stock responses.

What am I missing?

Otherwise, very helpful, although I have to say that, in general, I can never remember hints set out in this type of article when they would be useful, unless they can be set up in advance (as are many you mention).

Awesome, thanks for that tip!

I will have to try that last tip. While I'm glad I can plug my iPod Touch into my 2009 Honda Civic, the knob controls for going through tracks, playlists, etc, works poorly. Often if I want to get to an album, I will unplug it, select album, select first track, and then plug it back in.

I like tip about adding an Archive to iCloud email.

I don't use that account much, but that trick now gives me a folder where I can store messages I want to save from my _other_ accounts!

I've long wanted Apple to add a "New Folder" option to the File button's actions in Mail. Until they do, this gives me a viable workaround.

Thanks!

My favourite new feature on iOS6 is the search in Reminders! I usually buy the a lot of the same stuff over and over. Now if I want potatoes on my shopping list, I search for "pot" and I'll get a selection of the stuff I bought before like Baby Potatoes, 10lbs potatoes, instant potatoes etc. I tap on the one I want this time and up it pops (most of the time.) Then I uncheck it.
If I've put a price on it last time, I can see if the new price is poor, good or great to decide how many I might get now, which might range from the minimum (maybe none) to 2 month supply or the maximum I'll use before expiration respectively.
On my iPhone 4s, I sometimes just get the top of the Completed list when I hit search. It, almost always, will snap to the item if you scroll up quickly. It really is quick to do the shopping list this way while checking out the flyers. Anything not found I'll often add with dictation.

Just click on one of the stock responses, you can then start typing and it overwrites the existing text. Very handy!

Great stuff! The customizable vibrate and location based reminder info is excellent.
