"Checking to make sure you’ve got the latest updates to Flash Player these days is not easy task, as a single system can have several different versions".
The real reason why it's not an easy task to upgrade Ian (no matter what Control Panel update checker anyone has), is because Adobe is run by programmers who don't understand that releasing software in 2013 called "version 11.5.502.149.1434.34343.3435153.5353535.353.1235454" or however many Pi-type numbers coming after the version number is NOT intuitive or conducive to your average, or less-than-average computer user (i.e. the majority).
I really wish Adobe would waken up and simplify their use of Flash version numbers so that their customers actually have a chance to remember (or clearly see) what they've got on their system.
It would be great to see them adopt either put a single letter on the end of the version number, or if they''re on using Pi-length numbers then include meaningful info in those numbers like the date of release.

Anyone who cares the slightest bit about security should not have Flash installed in their routine-use browser -- I use a secondary browser (Chrome) to visit trusted pages when they absolutely insist that I use Flash, but otherwise, no Flash (and certainly no Java!)

"Check Now" in System Preferences always crashes System Preferences for me.... still does with the new update.

This is really confusing. I have version 11,6,602,161 installed, and I use Firefox. Yet, on the Adobe Flash Player site, it says the latest version for Mac OS X/Firefox is 11.5.502.149. I would think I'm OK< but why no clear explanation of that?
Maybe Adobe does not believe in the KISS philosophy: Keep It Simple Stupid!

Rule of thumb: don't install Flash unless you must. If you must, install click-to-plugin.
