Not sure what version of GW2 John Davison has played on his Mac but from my point of view it's a HORRIBLE port where the same hardware runs at much higher frame rate and quality under Windows.

That said some games to run well on OSX but the above is defiantly not one of them.

I'd also say a huge issue with Apple and gaming is the hardware. Most games today require a fast GPU and most Mac today have a very slow GPU. Again, someone in the panel noted that our Macs are really fast today where I'd say the avarage Mac is a pretty crap gaming machine. The best choice for a gamer would be an iMac but to get decent graphics performance you have to jump up to the 27" model preferably with the custom graphics option. This is quite sad as a faster 21" machine would be a brilliant gaming-system. Now it's stuck with a mid-range laptop GPU which honestly sucks.

The second part is as stated above. Some companies just can't write decent OSX games. Blizzard has in the past been very good at optiziming their offerings for the Mac where as Diablo 3 and especially Starcraft II runs a lot better under Windows. World of Warcraft still runs similar in both OS's however, as does the game Borderlands 2.

Other games are almost unplayable in OSX. Steam is brilliant here as it doesn't lock the user down into OS A or B. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction is a joke in OSX where it runs silky smooth on the exact same machine in Windows. The same goes for Guild Wars 2 (unless they've made to massive changes to the game the last few months).

So yeah, we really need better options on the hardware side and we really need developers to not suck at coding their games for OSX.
