Store music locally in iPad, still provide with on-demand access ?

Hi all,

considering that a fast WiFi connection is hard to come by when we exactly need it, I was wondering if it would be possible to synchronize music locally (through WLAN or USB connection) but sstill provide acces to songs stored in the cloud by iTunes Match? This would be to allow loading of local playlists while being able to see cloud-stored songs. Is there any way to tell them apart? Or is it exclusively one or the other?

MacBook Pro 8,1, 16GB, 500GB
Mac OS X 10.6.8 as main OS (Thanks, trusty old BlackBook!), 10.7.3 for playing around.
