The speculation of a wearable companion to iPhone has been thrown around when iOS 6 added "Bluetooth Sharing" menu inside Settings. This has been found to be unrelated to bluetooth internet / file sharing functions, and thus far nothing has been using this yet. Therefore it's been thought that a yet-to-be-released small companion device that communicates with iPhone via BT 4.0 might be why this menu exists.
In short, some people think iOS 6 points to #2 as likely.
As for #3, Samsung has done wristwatch phone as early as year 2000. Efforts to create something similar has been occurring sporadically in the last decade. It's obviously doable. But I have yet to see any of these devices get any mass appeal. I'm sure that if Apple does it, it'd sell well, but would it be the next thing that drives Apple's revenue? Smartphone trends point to larger screens and the wristwatch concept goes in a complete opposite direction.

Haven't worn a watch in years. No desire to go back. Though, if the curved, wrap-around talk is true and one could, say, hold it up to get augmented reality layers without the glasses I could see the appeal...

Much easier than the TV to deliver, since it doesn't require any deals to be made with content providers.
I'd totally buy a companion to the iPhone, would love to be able to see notifications with a glance at my wrist instead of having to dig the iPhone out

I need a lapel device. Similar to what they have in Star Trek the Next Generation. I would talk to Siri ask the time, directions, bus schedules, make phone calls, send text messages, and so on. I don't want to look at it. I want it to listen and respond.
