Hey-

I upgraded my Mac to OS 10.8.2. My machine will not recognize Microsoft Office 2004. What version will it recognize? I went to the microsoft website. I was able to download MS office 2013 but unable to install it, since my machine did not recognize my 2004 version of MS office. I was unaware of the compatibility issue and had not planned to invest in MS office. Suggestions?

I would suggest that your first uninstall Office 2004 or upgrade it to 2011 - Mactopia. Also there are freewares which are as good as Window 2007 and can be compatible with Lion.

Office 2004 is not compatibly with either Mac OS 10.7.x or 10.8.x.

You will need to upgrade to Office 2011 for the Mac.

To my knowledge, there is not a 2013 version of Office for the Mac, so if you actually downloaded a version called "Office 2013", then I suspect that might actually be a Windows version.

You can get a "Home & Student" license for Office 2011 for the Mac for about $110 or so...assuming you don't need it for commercial work.

As noted by the other poster, there are "freeware" alternatives.
