We're considering picking up a NEST Thermostat. It's pricey at $249, but the LCD screen is going out on the $75 unit we bought five years ago and it's behavior is a little flaky.

Have you looked at the touch screen wifi model Radio Thermostat / Filtrete 3M ?
I have two of those $99 ones. They were a PITA to set up initially (a few years back due to lack of documentation + inadequate software at the time) but have been solid once Radio Thermostat improved their server, iOS app and I've set them up with a fixed LAN IP address. Certainly cheaper and it didn't have to learn anything for two weeks. Hand programmed it more aggressively than NEST or the Energy office ever would.

FWIW, you can program a Nest thermostat, too. That's what I did with mine. Not sure if it's more efficient, less efficient or the same as a regular programmable thermostat, but I really dig my Nest :)

An iWatch would have to be pretty awesome to get me to wear a watch again. I haven't worn one in 15 years, since I realized that everything I own has a clock in it: car, cell phone, computer, microwave oven, etc. Plus, as someone had already mentioned, watches--especially an Apple product--is an invitation to be mugged in some parts of town.

That said, I bet if Apple did build a watch that interfaced with other iOS and maybe even Mac OS X devices, it would be pretty awesome. So circular logic says I'd probably buy one

... we need to be realistic about what to expect.

Absolutely not.

Reality is ever changing, altered by innovation and invention.

Some envision new realities before they exist and help shape them.

Most will acknowledge and embrace the new reality when it becomes evident.

Yet others will reject a changing reality and substitute one which gives them comfort.

Today's reality is tomorrow's history ... well, until it get re-written.

So, another example of recycling ideas, or maybe life imitating art:

or this one:

Either way, if it connected to my iPhone or iPad via BT I'd get one in a heartbeat, well a 2nd gen one anyway!
