My 2011 27 inch iMac goes to sleep at the default setting on long downloads or backups even though I have it set for 3 hours or Never. This has been since it was new. I always thought Apple would put out a fix for this but that never happened. Can you help me with this problem? It can be very annoying to have to start the machine up again every 10 or 15 minutes. Thank you, glmac

They might not have a fix for it because they might not know about it. It could be a purely local problem, such as the effect of some 3rd-party software. Have you also confirmed that the machine is really going to sleep rather than just the display going dark?

Thanks bastion. Yes, the machine does go to sleep a few minutes after the screen saver appears because that is the way my default is set. I did see a work around for this problem a few months ago as some others apparently had the same issue. But I can't remember where i saw it. I have already scanned through my Macworld magazines but it hasn't shown up. glmac
