Hello.
I have been a long time user of Things from Cultured Code and I've really liked it. However, with OmniFocus 2 coming out, I decided to survey the available task management apps to see if there was another one that might be a better fit for the way I work and have more modern features (like location awareness).
Much to my surprise and consternation, 9 out of 10 apps I've found have all been built around GTD--something I have no interest in learning to use at this time, mostly because GTD clients like OmniFocus do not support metadata tagging. I am also not interested in being forced to learn a new taskkeeping philosophy against my will. That's one thing I love about Things--you CAN use it for GTD, but it's flexible enough that you don't have to.
(Yes, I understand why a task should only have one Context in GTD, but that does not mean there isn't useful metadata I still want to attach and filter by, like contact names. And yes, I know I could just use plain text notes to do #hashtags, but that is a massive kludge for a great many reasons, especially if you ever want to rename your tags.)
The only non-GTD app I've found is 2Do, and they charge a subscription for iPhone/Mac cloud sync. There's also Daylite, but that seems like massive overkill--and it costs almost $300.
So what other full featured (on par with Things) non-GTD task managers are there that cloud sync with an iPhone client?
