On MacBookPro running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and FlashPlayer 11.6.602.167.... Videos on the CNN.com site get stuck. The short ad that plays before the news video plays fine, but then the video stops before playing the news content. Here are my observations and what makes this perplexing...

... This only happens in Firefox and Safari. The videos work fine in Chrome.
... I have no problem with any other Flash content in Firefox or Safari.
... The Flash process uses about 40% CPU while the ad is playing, then drops to around 1% when the video stops (before the news part plays)
... This only happens in MY user account. The videos play fine in Safari and Firefox in a "test" user account.

Based on the last observation, it's clearly something local to my user account. I've tried disabling Internet Plugins and Preferences in my user account...no help.

Any ideas?

Have you tried cleaning the cache?

With Firefox, have you tried uninstalling Firefox and re-installing it?

Yes, have tried clearing the cache...no help. I can try reinstalling Firefox, but I have installed more than one update that has not fixed the problem. And since the current installation works fine in the test user account, I don't think that's the problem.

Since it happens in your user account but not another test user account, that makes it seem like it is some corrupt file that is specific to your user account (i.e. a configuration files or something like that). If so, then it is possible that uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling will remove that corrupt file (for Firefox at least). It might not work, but it is potentially worth a try.

The other thing to try is Onyx and see if it helps.
