I just finished reading the glowing review of Android and his Galaxy S3 by Andy Ihnatko and how he dumped his iPhone. The article graphics even show an iPhone with a sticky note on it that reads "recycle." This article, in my opinion, is a very thinly disguised advertisement for the competition. Mr. Ihnatko is certainly entitled to his opinion, Guy Kawasaki (the former Apple 'evangelist') has also ditched his iPhone for Android recently. What is the purpose of such an article on a supposedly Apple centric web site? My question is what, exactly, has become of MacWorld and what is it's purpose now? MacWorld is part of a conglomerate of online and print magazines and I am seeing more and more links to other site's articles that are often critical of Apple and praising competitors. Why is this happening and what is the goal? The title MacWorld implies a focus on Apple products. If wanted to know how great the competition is I would visit THEIR web sites. Why, when I visit MacWorld, am I now bombarded with articles about Android, Samsung, Google, et al?

We do indeed focus on Apple and its related ecosystem, but we are not charged with being the company's cheerleader. We offer a variety of viewpoints in our opinion pieces (of which this is one). Some you may agree with, others not so much. Such is the nature of opinions.

I've been reading computer magazines for the past 30 years. Do you know who slammed Microsoft the hardest (by breadth of influence) over those years? PC Magazine! Not that the other magazines gave them a reprieve either. If Macworld is to have credibility as the largest print publication for the Mac, it needs to lead, which means not only telling you what you want to hear.
I'm more of a "Woz" guy...

The world has enough Apple fanboys without Macworld turning itself into another one. Sometimes Apple doesn't have the latest and greatest. If we use its products for some real purpose beyond showing the logo as bling, we should know that. We're not likely to find that out for ourselves. I'm glad MW has the gumption to tell us.

You think that's bad? I just got a PCWorld newsletter LOL! Yeah, I unsubscribed faster than...a very fast thing. But the sender was "Macworld Help Desk" and it had the subject line, "Why cross-platform gaming is Microsoft's secret weapon." Weird. I think it's IDG's attempt at going out of business with a bang.

More lulz from our friends at PCWorld: "Now that Windows 8 plays nice with phones and tablets, Microsoft can finally do cross-platform gaming right. Let's hope it doesn't screw it up." (emphasis added for clarity and hilarity)

So yeah, I'd say PCWorld is even harsher on MS than Macworld "seems" to be on Apple.

I have no problem with the article itself, but I do think the photos and graphics that accompany Macworld articles these days are inane. Screenshots and product photos are fine when they serve to illustrate a reviewed product or demonstrate a technique. But these silly photo compositions only detract from the content.

They're not clever, they're not informative, and they make it look like you have some graphics people who are just making up work to stay on the payroll.

And now a word from our lawyers.
