I fully agree. When I awoke this morning, I had a gut feeling Apple would release an Aperture update today. I also thought it would be an anemic update that does nothing significant for the application other than fixing a few bugs. 500 megabytes and few hours later, I was right.

More specifically than "a major release," what would you suggest Aperture needs? I'm not suggesting it's perfect - no software of any complexity ever is - but what do you specifically think it's lacking?

Perspective control would be nice. It also needs much better lightbox printing control, and better print layout tool in general.
How about imaging stacking tool for HDR? Panorama stitching? Calendar printing? The list goes on.

It's just NOT existing.
Does someone know whether Apple did pull the update because of problems or is it because I use 10.8.4 Dev?
--> REM: I did a test with 10.8.3 Rel. and still have the same problem.
Thank you for anyones feedback.

@trichardlin. Am thousand things are in the trenches with Aperture. I.E. Filtering keywords is a mess. Not intuitive at all and really mediocre. It takes forever to find, select and unselect keywords. No search field - nothing. Many bugs that Apple has ignored in months and years. I.E. moving a newly created project into a folder will most likely make you images in that new places disappear until you restart Aperture. Removing original images will NOT remove the thumbnails and previews. Come on... I could list many more things.. However I still love Aperture..but Apple is slow and does not keep up with changes that Lightroom comes up with. Just my 2 cents.

For what it's worth, I have a Core 2 Duo mini and a Core i7 MBP both running 10.8.3. When I updated the laptop last night it offered me iPhoto and Xcode. Aperture is on there, but I had to download the update manually. When I updated the mini this morning It offered Aperture, iPhoto, Safari and Xcode and Java. I don't have Java on the notebook, so that omission isn't a problem. I immediately went back to the notebook and it still wasn't offering me Safari 6.0.4. I confirmed it has 6.0.3.

Aperture needs far more than a point release. It has been three years since the last major released and Adobe just released the public beta for Lightroom 5 . Apple should just kill off Aperture if they aren't going to bother to actively develop it. More specifically than "a major release," what would you suggest Aperture needs? I'm not suggesting it's perfect - no software of any complexity ever is - but what do you specifically think it's lacking?
Oddly, I'm happy with Aperture as is but then I mainly use it for organization and minor tweaks. I prefer Photoshop for most editing. However, I wouldn't mind lens aberration correction features like those found in Canon's DPP. My impression of LR is the version updates were minor but by upping the number from 3 to 4 to 5 has greater marketing influence than the actual improvements.
