I lasted this long without needing it. Not once ever.

I created a document in Excel for the iPhone and saved it to my Skydrive which I was able to view in my browser but not on the iPhone even after about 4 hours.

You can select text to edit by double tapping on a word. http://twitter.com/D...9188865/photo/1

A true iPad version is needed.

Davis, that was a good find. Not standard iOS text editing behavior, but it does work. Still can't cut text you've selected, but you can format it.

I was unable to edit a .doc file on SkyDrive. But once the file was saved from the desktop to Skydrive as a .docx file, then it was editable. Amazingly, it appears the app can't edit Word files in the most overwhelmingly common format - often chosen to provide compatibility. Office suite apps provided by third party developers started out only being able to edit .doc files, eventually evolving so as to be able to edit .docx formatted files. Microsoft isn't just late to the game by 2-3 years - it's product is a pale imitation of Office and an embarrassment for a company with so many resources and capabilities. In a word, it is pathetic. What else can we expect from a company whose founder thinks millions of iPad owners are frustrated that their iPads won't run Office and thus expects them all to immediately migrate to MS Surfaces that do. What a joke.

We can finally see why MS took so much time to reveal their Office for iOS. They were (correctly) ashamed of it.
