iOS in the car? Safety experts are calling for less electronic gadgetry in cars. Messing with gadgets in cars will not be safe until we re-engineer the human brain or all have driverless cars.

Don't expect complete iOS access while the vehicle is in motion. It'll be some restricted car mode. The plus side of Apple looking into this area is that we may get more intuitive interfaces in our advanced systems, voice control, a bit more standardization. You can pull your hair out if you are used to a system that's well thought out, and then get to drive a rental / loaner / company car from another brand. On the down side Apple with its fixed / limited feature sets may put pressure to move forward too fast (no optical drive, no sd card, itunes store push ...) but I would think manufacturers can stand upto that. They'llhave to keep satellite, so who knows.
