I hope so, for exactly the same reason. But for my usage, my iPad 2 still works well enough. I was complaining about how iOS 7 made it slow to the point of being unusable. Then, it finally stopped working, so I did a wipe and restore and it's back to being usable again Still not as snappy as it was with iOS 6, but responsive enough that I don't think it's worth $550-$600 to update even if a new iPad with Touch ID comes out.

It seems to me that this coming year is when Apple should push the iPad to a place where it further replaces computers for most people. Solving the keyboard problem is integral to this strategy.
