Used it on OS 8, 9 and now X. No problems at all on G3, G4 towers and Powerbook.
I belong to the team from this site, that has instructions and links

and their SETI site page

Other distributed processing projects are Mersenne Prime search and distributed.net's listed on this page http://www.techdicti...sandtrivia.html

i've been running the seti@home client on os x for ages with no problems. but then a few months ago it started unexpededly quitting every time the screen saver was running and i came back to my computer. it's supposed to quit once i return while its in screensaver mode, but it would come up with the "unexptedly quit" dialog, and it was really annoying. i tried re-installing and the problem went away for a couple days, then just came back. so i sort of gave up. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have been with SETI@home for years as well. I have had some minor problems with the OS X client. There have been times that for some unknown reason the screen saver mode just would not work. I'd have all of the settings correct but it just would not start on its own. Then just as mysteriously it would start working properly again. Other than this it has worked just fine for me.
One of the things that I like about it is that it does not have to be your exclusive screen saver. You can have it running in the background while another screen saver is also working. I have my computer set that after 10 minutes SETI@home comes on and then at 15 minutes, effects comes on over it.

Morning, Glenn.
I had this problem a couple of times too, so went to the SETI homepage to find out. In each instance, their server was down either for maintenance or a change in their internal software. Thinking back on it, it always happened during an exchange between my Mac and them, i.e., when I was finished with a cycle and it needed to be sent to them and a new project downloaded to me. I've never had a time when either the screensaver of the app simply wouldn't work.

Grant,
I don't think that that was the problem in my case. During these times when the screen saver would not work, I would sometimes manually run the application and it would come up and continue processing the data packet. I think that it was rare for me to have this problem and when I ran the application have it tell me that it needed a new packet. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I've been with Seti@home for quite some time. (220 data units completed / 4.812 hours and 57 minutes total computer time). Since OS X supports multitasking it works very well in OSX.
Within the system pref I selected it to start up on log in and remain hidden. That way, I'm always calculating it without noticing it. Plus I haven't mentioned any drawback in speed as long as I don't run to heavy tasks on my Mac. If that is the case I just turn it off.

Hi
Been doing SETI for over two years now. Hasn't been too bad. 1,329 work units as of this post. My Ti 1GHz/1GB/60GB/10.2.6 completes them in about thirteen hours. My 1.1GHz Dell/512MB/40GB/XP-Pro in about ten hours. I have SETI going basically 24/7 on both machines, except when doing things like Photoshop and the like. I don't use the SETI screen saver, don't like it, and it cuts back on performance, I've heard.

991 units here, 12002 hours. That's with the current signup. When I first began I had a different ID with them and did more than 250 units. I strictly use the screen saver and do not have it running unless I'm idle. Since it disappears when I move the mouse or click on the space bar, there's no disruption of any kind to system performance.

macheetah, not to doubt your results on the dell in any way, but i'm very astonished to see stats like those on a 1.1Ghz P4. I've got a 1.7Ghz P4, running on 512MB rambus and xp pro.. and it takes me longer than 30 hours to finish each unit.
my powerbook, g4 867 with 768 ram is doing it in less than 12 hours. the dell run sit 24/7 with minor background applications too.. how'd you get your dell to go so fast?
