I'm running OS10.2.5
I've taken some screen shots which are saved as PDF default.
While they are on the desktop I open them in Preview > File > Export > I choose JPEG. The generic PDF icon is replaced by the picture icon. If I drag these into a folder the generic icon for Preview/JPEG returns.
1) Why does the icon show the picture when on the desktop, but changes when placed into a folder?
2) How to get the generic icon to stay as a picture even when placed into a folder?
Thanks for any help.

You have to change the View Options for that folder (or change the global ones) to use icon previews.

No problem. I think that is one of the most overlooked features in Jaguar (it's not obvious at all).

There is a freeware called "Pic2Icon"
This app. use the picture file to generate an icon.
The icon stays where ever you drag this file, and my system is faster than using icon preview.

It's me again...
Forgot to mentioned that there is a free ware called "iMage"
This utility help to change file format.
E.g. you just need to drag you PDF file onto the iMage icon, a dialog box open, and is asking you in what format you would like to have your file changed.

By the way, are you living in, or have you visited Thailand?
