Can someone explain to me what I need to do so I can send and receive emails which contain kanji and view websites from Japan? I have a G3 DT running System 8.5.1.

According to the Applecare Doc #3859
"the Macintosh systems, both in Japan and in the U.S., must have KanjiTalk software (the Japanese Macintosh operating system) to display the Kanji characters.

You can get KanjiTalk in the U.S. through a Kanji authorized reseller. Call 1-800-882-8856 to find your nearest Kanji authorized reseller."
OSX has support for all languages, and while your G3 would be super slow on it, it would work.
Is this a new computer for you? Why are you using such an old OS? You should really upgrade to OS 9.1 or at least OS8.6. Do you have the OS install CD's? Thy would probably have additional language support on them.

rockinphotog:
Thanks for your prompt response. I had no idea where to begin.
You're right about my ancient OS. I was planning on upgrading to 9.2.2 but held back in case I had no options other than installing Apple's Japanese Language Kit 1.2 (which only works on OS8 or lower). It's an old Mac I recently dragged it out of storage.

I can't speak to your original question, but I originally upgraded to 9.2 because the japanese language kit came as part of the package, not a separate deal.
