Using a PowerBook G4, Panther. I'm getting poor quality (low res) prints from my inkjet printer. I've tried two printers on entirely seperate local networks. My printer settings (printer setup utility and print dialog box) seem correct. When I print the same image on the same printer from a different machine, it looks great.
Is there something buried in one of my apps or somewhere in the system prefs that could do this? /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I've checked dpi settings (300) tried different paper types and settings. I think its a HP driver setting (using a deskjet 5550), but am having trouble gettng the hp toolbox to even see the printer, even though i can print to it...
the thing is that the same image prints fine when sent from a pc on the same network and same printer.
vexing... /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Try looking at "page setup" and make sure the HP printer is actually selected. Sometimes page setup defaults to "Any Printer" and your print quality could suffer. Are you sure the driver is in the right place on your drive, by that I mean in "Username" >library>printers. I jumped from 9.1 directly (almost) to Panther and printer settings was probably the most confusing thing for me. I installed an HP driver for my son's eMac and it just went onto the first level of the drive. I had to drag it into the right place.

It probably isn't your settings. I would suggest trying a new set of ink cartridges. Its possible the cartridges currently in your unit are low. Or if you use refillable ink cartridges the difference between the blacks, blues, yellows, magentas could be enough to alter quality of an image. Or it could be possible your unit has ink dried up in the nozzles of the print head. Which would also affect the print quality.
If new ink cartridges doesn't fix the problem. I would send it in for service.
