Just wanted to post this in case any of you are trying to use the Cisco VPN Client with OS X v 10.2

As you know, everything worked fine in 10.1.x but in 10.2 the client didn't work anymore.

The first issue was installing it. The installer looks for a few UNIX apps kmodload and kmodunload which were not included with 10.2 for some reason. I copied them from my backup of 10.1.5 and the install worked.

The second issue was trying to connect to the VPN. When I issued the command to do so I got an error indicating that VPNCLIENT couldn't connect to the kernel extension... even though I could see that it was available.

Out of luck I happened to try it again but by chance I had my Network settings set up to use a proxy... and it worked! In fact, I found that I didn't really need to USE the proxy, I just had to have an IP address in the Proxy box.

Now, I have NO IDEA how to fix this so that I don't need to use this work-around. But for now it works perfectly.

I seem to be having a similar problem as to what you experienced. Where can I find kmodload and kmodunload? (I wasn't able to locate them via Find. )

What IP address did you use for the proxy address.

In an effort to get around the kernel not found problem, I attempted to install the newest version of VPN client, but kept receiving a "permission denied" error when I was logged in as root and issued the ./ install_client command. Any ideas?

I ran Apple's Repair Permissions routine, and although it repaired some issues, I still unable to install the software as root.
