Hello, im a relatively new mac user, and i have a question about itunes and limewire, i have the newest version of both, however just recently when itunes updated, i lost my library, which i figured out how to replace, but also the playlist for limewire, where my new downloads would go to, and id have a list of everything ive downloaded. Ive tried doing a smart play list, however they dont immediatly go there, i have to search for the file and then move it to itunes, rather than it just being immediatly available. ive also tried enabling itunes in limewire prefrences, and checked all the obvious prefrences in both itunes and limewire. I had this problem once before, and a friend fixed it for me, but I cant for the life of me figure it out. Please help!

Have you tried reinstalling LimeWire? I believe LimeWire's initial setup will recreate any connections with iTunes that you may have lost, and should thus fix the problem.

This was a common problem. Version 3.8.10 was supposed to fix this--what version do you have?
Some say this works too, but I think it's only temporary: go into preferences. Select iTunes. Unselect the 'Enable iTunes Support' tick box. Hit 'Apply' then go back in re-tick the box and then hit apply again, and it seemed to work.

try Acquisition. I know thats not an answer to your question, but imho it is one of the most mac like file sharing programs.

I would try deleting this preference file before deleting iTunes:
com.apple.iTunes.plist
in Home:Library:Preferences then empty trash
I would only delete iTunes as a last resort, but if you do make sure you backup your entire iTunes folder so you don't lose any music or playlists.
You never did say what version of LM you are running?

LM is 4.0, the new one. it works rather nicely actually. i still havent figured out how to put the limewire folder back in itunes, however, i found away around it by putting a download file on my desktop, and then playing the songs, then they show up on a smart playlist in ituns, however, the music doesnt get transferred to my itunes folder, do you know why this is? also, does anyone have any advice on how to back up my music? oh, also i wanted to know if i make an alias of my music folder for my desktop, does anything added to the alias, go to the original? Thanks for all your help, i really appreciate.

Just double-checking, but did you enable the use iTunes option in LimeWire? It's in the preferences window.
You can have iTunes automatically copy files to its library, so once files are downloaded and you run them in iTunes, they will be copied over (this option is in the advanced portion of iTunes prefs). You just then have to remember to delete the ones you downloaded so you don't have duplicates cluttering up the place.
For backing up your music, your options depend on what hardware you have. I would recommend using a DVD (or CD if you don't have a superdrive) to backup you music. You can use OS X's built-in burning and copy the files directly from the iTunes music library, or you can use iTunes itself by going into the burning section of the prefs and choosing data/dvd. You could also use an external HD for backup (or an iPod for that matter).
Yes, anything you drop on a folder's alias will be placed in the original folder.
