I am excited, I am entering college this fall and am now switching from using pc's for the past 12 years. I can't wait to have a Mac. I am going to get the 1.2 ghz 14 in ibook in the next week or so. The only two things I can't decide about is whether to get the bluetooth module and whether or not to upgrade to the superdrive. Right now I am not doing any digital movie editing and it's tough to say whether I will be in the near future. I will mainly be using it to run MS Office, use itunes, use iphoto, and safari.

If you don't see yourself ever wanting to burn DVDs, the combo drive would be a perfect choice. As for the bluetooth, I would definitely purchase it as you are sure to have some use for bluetooth in the near future.

IMO, get the superdrive if you can spring the $$. It'll be one less thing to worry about later. I think you'll make good use of the DVD burner during college.

If you can afford it, get the Superdrive. Unless you currently have or plan on obtaining a large media (movie and/or music) collection during college, you won't need a superdrive. I mostly use my superdrive to backup data and I go for the DVDs to conserve on space (I have room to store 50 DVDs, but not 300 CDs--literally). You'll also probably find additional uses for it over time. javascript:void(0)
I would completely forget about the bluetooth module though. If bluetooth ever gets its feet on the ground, then by the time you find a use for it a USB bluetooth adapter will cost less than your lunch.

I would disagree with this. If you have a Bluetooth phone, Bluetooth headset, and/or a Bluetooth mouse, having built-in Bluetooth is a killer feature. I currently use all three with my PowerBook, and I really appreciate not having to use a USB dongle.
I would say that if you think you might ever have a use for such a Bluetooth device, get the built-in Bluetooth.

bluetooth is a nice feature to sync your mac with the mobile, but the superdrive (or an external DVD burner) is definitely the thing I use much more. if you can afford it, get the Combo drive and bluetooth and store a few $$ somewhere (or spent the directly) on an external DVD burner. Those things cost around a hundred dollar today...

If you can afford it, then I'd get both. Adding the bluetooth module is relatively cheap and the Superdrive should help extend the life usage of your machine.

my 2 cents: get the bluetooth modules. I didnt think I needed it either but it comes in very handy.
Skip the DVD burner. 1) no one really wants to see your DVDs. 2) You might use it twice.
If you have some cool video, you'll just show it to people on your computer right? It's a laptop. Who is really going to ask you for a copy so they can put it in their DVD player? Unless you plan to have a wild time in college. Then by all means, make some DVDs. I just think most people dont really need it.

My next purchase will definitely have the Superdrive for the reasons mentioned above, namely: storage. I'm tired of using multiple CDs for data. I'd much rather use a single DVD than a stack of CDs. Besides, maybe you'll want to convert your old video tapes.
