I use iTunes on my powerbook to transfer to my ipod and my daughter's Rio Cali mp3 player. We installed iTunes for Windows on her Toshiba and she transferred songs from her CD to the iTunes for Windows library and created a playlist. She was not able to get iTunes for Windows to recognize her Rio Cali. I am trying to help her by phone (long-distance). She was in tears from frustration. I have not been able to find a solution on the Apple support site.
Her Toshiba has on USB connections. Is that relevant?
Someone suggested that iTunes for Windows works only with the ipod. Is that possible?
We would appreciate any help.
Thanks

Yes, only iTunes and the iPod are designed to communicate to one another.
There's nothing stopping her from using iTunes to listen to the music on her laptop via the internal or a set of external speakers, but for transferring songs to and from the Rio device, she'll just have to do it the old fashioned way - drag and drop.
If she uses iTunes for adding songs to her playlist off a CD, she will need to make sure they are encoded as mp3s and not AAC so as the Rio can play them.
