OSX Help. I forgot my password when logging on recently so changed it, then remembering it changed at login screen. Then when logging back on after shut-down(important) my Home file had gone. I managed somehow to relogin using new password and all good BUT keychain access isn't playing ball and neither new nor old passwords allow me access BUT internet working ok, Mail ignores my incorrect password after a while but i cant back up as .Mac not recognising my password either.
I want to start again (no not with a PC, but with this keychain nonsense), please somebody help this powerbook owner.

Anytime you use the install disk to changed the account password, the keychain password is not changed. In fact, since the keychain is encrypted with a key based on the password, it's not possible to change its password without knowing the old password. This is actually a good thing, since it means that even if your Mac his stolen by a Mac-savvy thief, they still can't get to your saved passwords, and through them your e-mail or even a bank account. (Unless you are really unlucky.)
To get out of this situation, all you have to do is open the KeyChain Access Utility (Applications/Utilities) and remove the current keychain. Then go into your home up Library/keychains folder and remove the actual keychain file as well.
This Apple Knowledgebase article should explain all the details.

I just ran into the same problem. I finally ended up deleting the whole keychain and starting over. At that time I may have figured out what happened. The keychain requires a secure password, one consisting of 6 or more numbers AND letters. It is very possible that your keychain password is totally different from your login password. Just something for everyone to keep in mind. It might have helped me to know that before I blew away the original one.
