How do I create a bootable DVD from a dmg file? My friend created the dmg, but I think he forgot to bless it (or whatever the equivalent is). Regardless, I can burn the dmg to a DVD, but the DVD isn't bootable. I have the dmg on my HD. I also have Toast 5 and 6, if either of them can do the trick. Thanks.

I don't know about DVDs, but for a CD you would just select the image (mounted? unmounted?) in Disk Utility and click burn.

That's what I tried, but it didn't work, hence why I posted the question. Thanks though. Anyone else have any thoughts?

My guess is that your file should be an img and not a dmg for a DVD burn.
Well, it's what mines are and there isn't any trouble reading them...

I suspect your friend didn't select "CD/DVD Master"
when creating the DVD.

Ok, so that's good and all, but how do I fix it? How do I take the files I have and create a bootable DVD?

I don't believe it is fixable, though I've been
way wrong before. The dmg is toast (so to speak).

I queried without joy both Roxio (Toast) and Dantz (Retrospect) on creating a bootable DVD that could be kept at a remote site and used in a replacement computer if the original computer were damaged or stolen. My searches of several forums failed to turn up anything useful.
Respectfully, Norm
