One feature that fire has and Adium does not. With fire I have been spoiled by the fact I can send an IM to someone who is online and even just see who is online by right clicking on Fire in the dock. I never have to have a contact list window open on my desktop. If Adium will do this I have not found out how.

Well, I suppose if that's a deal breaker, go with Fire. I personally think Adium's contact customization makes it pleasant to have open all the time.

I understand ............ I personally prefer to have nothing open on my desktop. However that is the only complaint I can see with the program.

Tried them out. Both Fire and Adium have some interesting features. However, none of them have the ability to format Away Messages or profiles. Other than that, they were pretty cool. But most of my away messages are songs, or poems, or quotes with translations in Latin or Irish Gaelic. I like my formatted away messages. Guess I'll just have to wait to switch until one or the other gains that feature.
Thanks though for the recommendations!

Adium allows for formatted profiles and away messages. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Right. I see now. Thanks.
Can you give your away messages a solid background color, by any chance?

Hmm, I don't see a way. You might ask in the Adium forums (which are regularly read by the developers I might add).

Perhaps I'm not understanding what you are asking, but it seems to me that your issue with Allume's Stuffit Expander lies in the "Expanding" and "Destination" preferences. The app always expands and to my set destination folder for all compressed files - either version 8 or 9.
Try adjusting those two settings and see what you get.

My problem was that double-clicking on .sit or .sitx files always launched Stuffit Deluxe, where it showed you a list of the compressed files and gave all sorts of options (much like WinZip for Windows). It was a pain. All I wanted was an immediate expansion when I double-clicked a stuffed file. The fix was laughably obvious. Choose Get Info, and change the default program to open .sit and .sitx files to Stuffit Expander (not Stuffit Deluxe). No more hassle now.
