Hi,
Am looking for a strategy game similar to Riven (I know, cliche!).

Erm...strategy game? Riven?
Riven's more of a graphical adventure puzzler. Is that what you're looking for, or is it a strategy game you seek?

something a little more intelligent and challenging than these violent FPS games. Warcraft is too 'busy' and confusing. The Myst/Riven series were good (Riven was a bit less of a hassle to play).
Just want a short list.

Hi fellow adventure game fan!
The adventure games I liked a lot were:
the Atlantis series, Riddle of the Sphinx, Amerzone, The Messanger, Zork Grand Inquisitor and 9.
Starship Titanic was fun and innovative but the ending was kinda, well, precipitated I find.
Some of these games I mention you'll probably have lots of trouble finding them because they're old!
Check out the thread I started (because I find it is directly related to your question):
Adventure game fans UNITE!
We need your help!

Passing this on to you.
New adventure games:
http://www.alidagame.com/ (Mac-only! Classic version already out and a OS X version due out in, hopefully in about 10 days, 5 CDs!)

http://www.rhem-game.com/
http://www.illuminat...ntern.com/1893/
Anybody out there willing to share info?

"these violent fps games"??? warcraft is too confusing??? no offense, but you need to take yourself back to when myst was the only game out for computers and STAY THERE. if you dont have the intellectual capacity to play complex strategy games or the ability to delight in sheer, unadulterated mayhem, you should not be gaming at all. if riven could be called "gaming, " that is. sheesh. wrong forum for YOU.

Well, I'm certainly glad that we have arbiters of taste like Lt. Page to tell us what games to like and what not to like.

lt. page,
let me guess...You're about16 years old, barely passing your classes in school and haven't been on a date yet. There is a reason the Myst/riven series are the most popular games of all time. Some of us don't have 8-10 hours in a day to devote to gaming (I'll say this more clearly for you to understand: a lot of us have jobs, kids and real responsibilities that require our attention elsewhere than in fron of a computer screen). You seem to be in need of an attitude adjustment-perhaps I can recommend picking up a book once in a while.

Not to flame but Myst/Riven is what killed adventure gaming. Big production, little gameplay, archaic puzzles...
So you want adventure/logic puzzles? Cheesy FMV?

I love that series. I think they're so beutiful, and clever and immersive. True art if you ask me.

I think the original request on this thread was for game recommendations, not 'what's wrong with Myst". Personally, I wish games came in 'extended' and 'abbreviated' versions because some of the games are too long (I guess that's what demos are for).
I thought Exile was gorgeous and a lot of fun. It gets repetitive shooting bad guys all the time. Oh, and I suppose Nazi's creating super-soldiers is not hokey!?

And I thought that is what saved games were for. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Other gems: The Longest Journey or Syberia

Sorry to say this Bane but The Longest Journey and Syberia are PC-only and will never be ported to the Mac. I would be curious to know where you heard that these games existed for the Mac.
One game that holds a lot of promise is Alida which I mentioned in an earlier post. It is Mac-only and is available in OS 9 and OS X versions.
Here's where you can read a review:
Alida Review
Rhem is also a new game that is OS 9 compatible and an OS X version is due out in April. You can download a demo here:
