My 17"G4 1.5 powerbook has been a little troublesome in the 5 months ive had it. Im on my third logic board and have fun including purring kitten fan sounds (logic board ), no airport reception (DOA) and smoke coming from the power socket (NEW LOTS OF THINGS)
todays exciting episode is...this afternoon my keyboard only types numbers (posting this on my imac)
Ive done some reasonable searching and cant find anything on this one. anyone with any ideas or previous experience welcome.

You probably have the number lock key engaged (the F6 key) Unengage the key.

As I tell most people with any new computer, send it back. Don't try to resolve the issue yourself then find yourslef out of warranty, send it back. Apple is awesome at turn around time. My roomate had a problem with his PB and it was out for a total of two weeks including the week it spent in store looking at it.

I, too, am getting those annoying kitten purring sounds every so often. I can't pinpoint it, but I do recall it happening when I've left it on for a while.
What is it?!?

they had to replace the logic board i think eventually or maybe a fan controlling board as it seems one of the fans was getting a low voltage pulse. after the third time to the shop though!
cheers

Sorry to hear about your troubles.
I too have experienced the keyboard problem you described: it's manifested itself in different combos on different occasions - e.g. sometimes I can only type numbers, sometimes only certain other keys, etc.
I have not been given an answer by Apple as to why it happens.
I solve it with a hard reset.
