With my slow ISP I did get a good down load of 9.1 after 5+ hours of downloading alinstlation went very good.. (had 9.0.4 on my cube) I had an update CD fo 9.2.1 and that went well...

Then I tried to down load 9.2.2 and got "shrinkwrap engin has reported an error error -10" it is still on my desk top waiting to install or trash....this problem happen two times on OS 9.0.4 and now with 9.2.1...

After installing 9.1 & 9.2.1 I got a bomb "system reeor occurred finder error type 10 while I was on ivoice whileI trying it out in claris 4.5....

After downloading 9.2.2 last night this a.m. I found the following...."the disk macintosh HD appears to be damage use a disk repair utility to repair the disk"

I did and ran disk diskwarrior and it fixed a few things (unable to save the results as it has never allowed me to do so since I first got it then I ran norton 5.0 and got the following:

First, did you save all of those updaters? If so, copy them to a CD or Zip disk or external hard drive for later use. Then back up everything on your hard drive that is of a personal/business nature that you must keep. Don't worry about applications and stuff that you can reinstall.

Once you're sure you have saved everything you could possibly ever need, start up from your original Cube CD (either the System Restore or the System Install should work) and run Drive Setup from the CD (located in the Utilities Folder). I would suggest you run a low-level format. It takes a little time, but in your case you have damage to your drive and you want to avoid those areas in the future. It should not be necessary to "zero out" the drive.

Once that's done, install Mac OS 9.0.4 from the same CD (if you use the Restore CD, it will install everything back exactly to the way it was when you took the Cube out of its box. If using the Install CD, you can customize things and just put in what you want/need). After all is well with this initial install, restart the computer. Then run the updater(s). I would suggest that you attempt to omit 9.1 and 9.2.1 and jump straight into 9.2.2 since that's what you say you need. I don't believe the intermediate steps are necessary, but not sure. Whatever, be sure to restart between each step as you go along. Again, it takes longer but it gives the Mac's system what it needs to continue.

Only after you're satisfied that you have the system you want/need do you begin to reinstall your applications and other third party software. Hope you find this helpful, and good luck!

Two weeks ago I updated my G4 dual 450 from OS 9.0.4 to 9.2.2. I have DSL so the downloads took about 12 - 15 minutes. The instructions on the Apple download site clearly say to update to 9.1 first, then 9.2 and then 9.2.2, restarting your computer after each install. The update was successful with no problems. Love that DSL connection.

Last night, I downloaded 5.1MB MRJ 2.2.5 .smi from Apple's site and got a Shrinkwrap engine error -60 dialog box. Nothing was damaged, and MRJ installed fine.

I did a search in Apple's Knowledge Base, typed in Shrinkwrap Engine and found doc stating this is a download issue when Aladdin Expander is set as default processor for Apple site branded disk images (.img and .smi). Shrinkwrap Engine is an Aladdin concoction. Disk Copy 6.x.x should be used to handle these files.

What confuses me is the different error codes (-xxx) associated with this issue and no explanation except for one -108 mentioned in Apple Download issues doc. Anyone more knowledgable, please chime in.

I'm running OS 8.5.1 on 9600/300.
