Just wondering if anyone has experience connecting an iBook to a VCR for viewing DVD's. My iBook came with the vga adaptor and I was just wondering what cable I need to connect it to my VCR since my TV doesn't have the three prongs (red, yellow, white). Is this cable expensive and where is the best place to find it (apple store)?
Once I have it connected, do I just launch iDVD on my laptop and it plays on my TV?
Thanks for any help in advance!

from your post I assume that you do not have one of the newer VGA adapter that has both VGA & S-video.
What you need is an iBook A/V adapter. It looks like a camcorder adaper with triple segment mini plug on one end and the common red, white, yellow RCA connectors on the other end.
you can get one from various online stores such as:

One problem you will encounter is if you are watching a commercially produced movie it will most likely have Macrovision copyproctection on it. If so connecting it up to your VCR to watch it on your TV will not work. The picture will just fade in and out or scrambled in some way. Depending on your specific DVD drive in your iBook overcoming this is difficult to impossible.

I've discovered that if I remove the tape from my Sony digital camcorder and pass protected DVD signals through it, they playback just fine.
One of my clients has permission to use excerpts of commercial movies in her work as an organizational development specialist. I used this method to create Quicktime movies of DVD excerpts for inclusion in her Powerpoint presentations.
