I use Word to write long documents with lots of end notes. My clients typically have PCs. When one of them opens my Word documents, the super-scripted numbers throughout the text (which refer to the references/end notes at the end) convert to Roman Numerals.
Is there something in his preferences or something that is making this happen?
Obviously, when he makes changes, his document cannot become the Master because of this, and I end up having to copy and paste his changes into my document.
I am using 2004. His PC version is recent as well.
Any suggestions

We have several authors and column writers who submit material as Word documents from PC machines as well as several news releases that come in as Word documents. What we have found is that some of the unusual keyboard characters do not translate properly from PC to Mac. In our case, the ones we have the biggest problems with are quotation marks and apostrophies. In your case, I would run some tests to find out whether there is a generic problem translating subscripts and superscripts between PC and Mac platforms.

I, too, receive bunches of Word files. My Normal template is so tricked out I cannot tell you where the dialogue window is in Word's default. Mine is custom built for manuscript editing/writing and screen writing.
You describe a foot and end note settings problem. FORMAT one of the interior options boxes/windows for inserting or creating footnotes or endnotes is where to look. In this [series of] windows you can switch from footnote to endnote to section endnote at will as you alter the numbering method. Since the notes already exist, the solution is to globally alter the way they look.
One last thing. Make certain you both use IDENTICAL fonts. Knock yourself out.
