The speaker guards that come with it are horribly ugly...the rest looks good though

An employee of mine has a couple of kids 8 or 10, and they are desperate for a computer. I think the eMac would be just the ticket for a family who wants to get all the benefits of a modern computer system at a really affordable price. The problem is her husband, a plumber, has heard nothing except Gateway (we have a store nearby.) Anyway, I've been giving her information on the eMac and really think an eMac and printer (Epson C80?) would make them all pretty happy. Am I on the right track? It seems like one heck of a good deal. images/icons/confused.gif

I thought I read somewhere there is a patch for that problem. Can't speak to the modem problem on the eMac as I use an airport card to connect to my wireless home network. Sorry.

Well it doesn't look like there is a "patch" for it at all if you read what is one that site.

Doesn't anyone with a eMac use the 56k modem that came with it for the internet?

Someone?

Also any imac people or eMac people how well does it go at games? is it fast? or slow?

Thanks for the help.

A GeForce2 w/32MB DDR will play games a lot better than any budget Gateway, or any budget PC for that matter.

Just tried out Quake III last night on the eMac. It is better even than on the G4 400 or on the G3 iBook 500. Better graphics. Faster. And on full screen - 17' !

I just want to tell everyone, that I have no idea why it has taken me so long to get a mac. I absolutely love my eMac : ) I have even purchased my first Mac shareware called Watson. What an amazing little search application.

Jason. . .if your referring to the July issue of Macworld, then it really isn't a hands-on put it through it's paces kind of review. I think those of us that have purchased one are a better source for the time being.

YEEHAA good to know a Macworld review i on it's way!

So no one has had any 56k modems going out on them like the iMac people on there eMac?

I hope that's not a hardware bug or else apple's in it this time....i won't be happy to find that it can't be fixed via software....i have heard some where that some people have to use the 56k modem to go slower so they don't drop out from the net.....that's not good images/icons/frown.gif

Anyway good to know it play's game well......now i wait for the macworld review and what they think of everything about it....and Macworld New York 2002.

I can feel my next mac comeing! images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/rolleyes.gif images/icons/tongue.gif

what's this about 56k modem problems?
I can't speak for the eMacs - but I use the builtin one of my iMac FP all the time, nothing ever wrong with it.

And since the eMac is pretty much the same as an iMac on the inside - it runs games mighty fine. Granted I've only really tried the Quake3 demo - but running at 1024x768 and max everything - it was still getting well into the 50fps, and sitting around 40fps most the time.
Should be ample for just about any game out now (the only one really in question is Doom3)
