Having proclaimed the merits of the Mac platform to my PC friends since 1985 (starting with my 128k Mac) Im now embarrassed - nay more like humiliated - that Im unable to do something as simple as copy and burn a CD using iTunes that will play on my car CD player (auto CD player is presumably original equipment in my 1998 Honda Civic) yet my gloating PC friend is able to burn copies from my commercial CDs and they play in my car just fine. CDs burned on my Mac play perfectly on newer CD players, but never in my 7 year old car. My two computers which Ive burned from are both iMac G4s, 800 MHz, OSX 10.3, one with a Pioneer DVD-RW-104, and the other a newer Pioneer DVD-RW-106D. Can you explain this to me? How do you import tunes into iTunes?
If you download them as mp3 files then your card CD player may not be mp3 compatible as that didn't become a standard until after 98.

In iTunes Burning prefernces choose Audio CD, your player won't play mp3's probably. Sound Check is an option you'll see there too, it keeps the volume level for all songs the same, but it I've heard that it flattens it too. I haven't experimented enough to say personally.

mine all play fine in my 1995 geo. are you sure you are burning an audio CD, and not an MP3 CD?

Cheer up, chum, it's not so bad. I agree with the others, sounds like you're burning mp3 CD's instead of audio CD's. I've made that mistake myself. I also agree about the sound check thing. I've been burning CD's for a while with the sound check option turned on, and I'm not terrible pleased with the results. CD's I had burned prior to learning of that option seem to sound much better. Besides, we all know we're using the better platform. My stupid work PC won't even recognize an external USB hard drive that's formatted for a PC. Works fine with my iMac, though.

Thanks for the replies, unfortunately my problem isn't that I'm burning MP3's. Wish I was. It would be simple to correct. Even my teenage daughter asked me if I was burning compressed MP3's. When I burn CD's I always go to the iTunes Preferences, click "burning," and make certain "Audio CD" is checked (as opposed to "MP3").
Any other suggestions? I'm very open and would love to discover a solution.

How do I import? I open iTunes, insert my commercial CD into the CD tray, and click the Import button in the upper right hand corner of the iTunes window. Did I miss something?

I believe all newer versions of iTunes default to the AAC format instead of MP3. So you might be importing to a format that didn't exist when your car was built. You can check in iTunes Preferences under the "Importing" button.

It's happening on CD's from two different burners so I'd guess your older CD player may not like the color, or reflectivity or lack of, of the CD's you're using. Try a name brand media, not generic. If the burn surface is light in color try a darker surface, or vice versa
They're not CD-RW's are they?

I've tried different bands of media, but had no criteria to differentiate one from another except brand name. I'll try anything.
