The remark was aimed squarely at OSX's font handling.
As for designers working or not working with OSX, I know plenty of designers who work with Windows. Your statement seems to imply that just because lots of people use something that's all the proof needed. In which case Windows is stand out brilliant!
Many designers use their machines in ignorance of any alternatives and in ways that set experienced users teeth on edge.
Eventually there will be none left who can remember it ever being any different.
Apple has strayed pointlessly away from good GUI and extremely productivity methods for what seems novelty's sake and fickle fashion statements.
Can I raise just one GUI issue that sucked in OSX 10.0, then again in 10.1, 10.2 as well as 10.3 and probably will again in 10.4. When you Save/Open, the view into the columned folder hierarchy is either 1 or 2 columns to the left of where you are. Is it too much to ask that glitches like this get fixed? I've reported it as a bug for every version.
There are plenty more.
