Just a quick tour of how it went and how everything works:
45 minutes using update from 10.3.9 to 10.4
Everything works.
Too simple, eh?
2-month-old Mini, 1.42, 80gb -- first ever Mac -- OS X Rules, I dont care what flavor it is, OS X RULES!
Everything works -- as far as I know, each of these is the latest:
Firefox, Thunderbird, Adobe Reader, Appleworks, Backup [from .Mac], clamXav, Internet Explorer [still sucks, though], MacJanitor, MoneyDance, NeoOfficeJ [very, very important for my peace of mind], Palm -- including conduits and hotsync, PDFPen [also very important for my peace of mind].
Doesnt work: Olympus Camedia Master 4.2 -- which stopped working with 10.3.8. They know about it. Id hoped they were just waiting for Tiger. Now, I dont know what theyre waiting for? This is an important piece of software for me.
Now, I can start learning about all the new stuff, including what might replace and better serve my needs than some of the stuff I already have.
Did I mention -- OS X Rules!

6 hours after install -- discovered the driver for one of my two printers was kaput! After several tries, the usual way -- Canon is very particular about how to install their drivers, especially in the M$oft world I just left -- I simply deleted the printer and reinstalled it using the OS X printer setup utility -- since I'd downloaded the latest driver [a year old for 10.2] from the Canon website -- and it worked, just fine.
Tomorrow, I'll start learning the new bits. Maybe, try the other printer, too.

Well, now, I have a problem with printing, this morning.
System's up automatically, this morning, as usual; but, now the Mini can't communicate with my printer. I use a Linksys WPS54G wireless print server -- so, when I'm outside with the laptop I can dump to the printer.
Fiddled with driver for printer and print server -- the latter was cranky and I'm not certain if I had any effect. I've hooked up the printer via USB and it's working just fine. So. the problem sure sounds like network communications.
Any suggestions? Networks are still alchemy as far as I'm concerned.

Even though Canon has a note up at their website about having Tiger drivers, real soon, now -- I removed both my printers from the wireless printer server [Linksys] and plugged them directly into my USB hub. Tiger recognized them, on-the-spot, and they run just fine with the existing drivers. This also makes it clear to me the problem lies with the printer server.
Sadly, Linksys' website isn't a big help with anything Mac. I'll turn on my noisy old XP tower, this afternoon, and wander through settings for the printer server -- and see if I can sort it out.
Still, it's worth reporting that the few problems I've had -- really have nothing to do with Tiger. I don't wish to have the OS designers allow for everyone else's lousy coding and/or standards. It would end up like XP. Or, probably, Longhorn.

GOTCHA!
Reinstalled the Linksys Wireless Printer Server [WPS54G, by the way], using my noisy XP tower. Added that printer via my Tiger Printer Setup Utility.
Bingo. Now, I can turn that sucker back off for another millenium.
