I am working to move my parents up to OS X. However, they have a home office and like their Canon C635 printer/copier/fax/scanner. Unfortunately, Canon doesn't have any X-savvy drivers, that I have found. In fact, I can't seem to find any multi-purpose printers out there from any manufacturer that is X-savvy. I would simply get them a cheap inkjet with OS X support and make the C635 a stand-alone fax/copier but that would take up more room and forfeit the scanner function.

Does anyone out there know of a good upgrade/downgrade/cross-grade/driver hack/??? that would work? If I can get the printer issue resolved, I should be able to move them to X. Thanks in advance!

I don't believe there are any all-in-ones that run in true OS X. The best that can be done is to acquire a printer/scanner/fax/copier machine that runs in Classic. I have one, Epson's Stylus Scan 2000, but haven't opened it because I would rather print in OS X. The problem with reselling it is there is nothing equivalent that will function in OS X available.

If you are satisfied with running in Classic, there are all-in-ones available from Canon, Lexmark and the forementioned Epson. See Apple's OS X Products Guide for details.

I have seen quite a few lamentations over the problem, but no hacks.

I guess I will have to wait and see. It seems that if OEM's had enough “pressure” from consumers to publish a driver, we might get somewhere. Guess it's another casualty of low market share. images/icons/frown.gif

I did some more digging based on the Macintosh Products Guide. I may have found a good replacement for the Canon MultiPASS C635: a Lexmark X86.

Here’s a link:

The tech support page says that it supports printing in Native OS X, but you never know 'til you try. Does anyone have any experience using this printer under X?

I have an HP 85Gxi that runs in a mixed environment. I have it hooked up to my network of Windows, Mac OS 9, and OS X. I regularly print, scan, and fax from my IceBook in OS X. I am using a HP 175x jetdirect USB-Ethernet print server

Now with that said, I have seen others in these forums with problems with the same printer.
